Baby Shepherd Coming Soon…Augsust 2026
I am finally attaining the long-awaited rite of passage called Motherhood. I am 6 months pregnant with our baby boy inside, and the fullness of the second trimester is here and phasing smoothly into the third! He is alive and moving with personality! My husband Wesley and I have known that God would call us to have a son since we were dating, and I knew personally for the entirety of my adult life.
I, for one, began having vivid dreams of our little boy during my freshman year of University, and would not mention the fact to a romantic pursuit until Wesley and I finally began on the topic of raising children around mid October of last year. The Lord would later confirm that He was calling us to parent by speaking clearly to Wesley about the biblical significance of the number three. The prophet Jonah spent three days in a Wale before he was spat out and sent to Nineveh. Jesus remained three days in the tomb before he was resurrected. There are three persons in the Holy Trinity.
I never asked Wesley outright how he felt about it all. I never needed to. I probed his heart by slipping in a little detail about my love for the name Shepherd and my confidence in the gender of a boy and he was content. He loved the name Shepehered, and for a season it was sort of a theme in our lives; that Jesus is The Good Shepherd, and that He leaves the 99 in pursuit of the one lost Sheep.
Is that not the sweetest? To call our son Shepherd is the sweetest little name we could give to our promised child. It sort of reminds me of how God gave a promise to Abraham and Sarah, that around the same time the following year they would have a son. Sarah, having been extremely advanced in years, just like her husband Abraham, laughed at the promise. “Is anything too wonderful for the Lord?” The Lord replied to Sarah at the echo of her laughter (Genesis 18:14), and because of that she called her son Isaac, meaning “laughter” in Hebrew!
The Lord has proven that nothing is too wonderful for Him and that just as He proved Himself to be The Good Shepherd in our dating season, He would give us a child in remembrance of this, who would be the embodiment of this aspect of His character. It is because the Lord has sought after me, the one lost Sheep, that I have decided to call our son Shepherd.
